New York Sketchbook: Curtis & Daisy

I met up with my friend Mr Curtis Eller, who introduced me to his family including Daisy (pictured) and his wife Jamie, who is a fantastic illustrator. They live in Queens, which as Curtis informs me is one of the least leafy parts of New York - which is encouraging considering there's more greenery there than any neighbourhood in Bristol.

New York Sketchbook: FOOD

Everything here IS bigger, starting with the food. I tend to have eyes bigger than my stomach anyway, and the huge pot of fried squid followed by a giant steak - not to mention the nicest steak I've ever eaten by far - was an excellent start to the trip. Not that I could finish.

I'm on holiday in New York at the moment. I'll be uploading sketches from the trip as I go. Enjoy!

Bloaty Monster

Another reworking of an old drawing to add colour and atmosphere. The background is mostly just filler but I'm relatively pleased with how it's turned out.

I think he looks a bit like Dick Cheney.

Leery reworked

Colouring has always been a weak point of mine and I've been taking steps lately to remedy that. This is really just a test - it's an old pencil drawing that I've scanned in and coloured on the PC. The original pencil shading was quite minimal, but I think it worked better to leave the shadows as they were and concentrate on highlights. As a first effort at colouring using this particular method, I'm quite pleased.

Comments and advice on this would be appreciated.

A housewarming gift

A spur-of-the-moment picture for a person who needed something up on their wall. A terrible cameraphone picture is better than no picture at all: some would disagree.

Pen and pencil, some paper with an odd grain that shows up in the image.
